She doesn't look very pregnant from this angle, BUT.... She really is VERY pregnant.

Mimi's babies arrived Sunday March 13. Eight sweet little ones, 6 boys and 2 girls.

Puppies are 1 week old. They had their first trip to the Vet at 2 days old, for an exam and dew claw removal. Now, they have all gained weight, looking fat with shiny coats. They cannot see or hear, so they navigate by sense of smell and body heat. They live in a 4' x 4' whelping box with a heat lamp in one corner. If they're cool, they move under the lamp and huddle together. Warm, they move away and separate from each other. Puppies also cannot control their body temperature yet - that's why I must provide them with a range of temperatures so they can find their comfort zone. The normal temp for a dog is higher than for people, at around 100 degrees.

These pictures show a typical morning. They ate earlier, then mom left to get her own breakfast and some fresh air. When she returned, she started nuzzling them one by one, licking them to stimulate them to pee and poo - another thing they cannot do on their own yet. As she woke one and cleaned it, the puppy followed her heat and scent for another breakfast snack. One by one, she wakes them, cleans them and they move over to the breakfast bar, Chez Mimi.
